By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Thu, 14 Jul 2016

THE WBO bantamweight world title fight between defending champion Pungluang Sor Singyu of Thailand and mandatory challenger Marlon Tapales of the Philippines will be held at the Ayutthaya Park in the historic city of Ayutthaya in Thailand, about 1 hour drive from Bangkok going north, on July 27, Tapales' manager Rex 'Wakee' Salud has informed Philboxing.
The Pungluang-Tapales title fight was postponed from its original date of June 17 and now appears all set as the venue has been finalized.
Ayutthaya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was founded in 1350 by King U Thong and named after the Indian city of Ayodhya, the residence of the famous hero of Ramayan, Lord Rama. The city flourished from the 14th to the 18th centuries, during which time it grew to be one of the world?s largest and most cosmopolitan urban areas and a center of global diplomacy and commerce and was sometimes known as the Venice of the East. Its remains, characterized by the prang (reliquary towers) and gigantic monasteries, give an idea of its past splendor.
Regular boxing events have been held in the city throughout the years the last one was between undefeated Thai WBC minimumweight world champion Wanheng Menayothin and Edo Anggoro of Indonesia on May 27, 2016. The Pungluang-Tapales world title fight will surely add significance to the boxing history of the historic city.
