PROFESSIONAL BOXING COMMISSION, INTL. REFEREE AND JUDGES SEMINAR IN DUBAI

PhilBoxing.com

DUBAI, UAE - The Professional Boxing Commission, International, an organization of boxing officials that got their start with big fights held in Macao, conducted a workshop for aspiring referees and judges in Dubai.

This is part of the organization?s effort to teach and share knowledge about how to properly officiate fight cards at the grassroots level in countries that are starting to gain interest in staging professional boxing promotions.

Dubai is hosting a professional fight card this June 3 and the cornermen and boxers had a rules meeting conducted by the Professional Boxing Commission (PBC),Intl officials.

After the rules meeting, participants who are interested in becoming judges and referees had lecture about the important basic points on professional boxing rules and the finer points on how to referee and judge a fight.

International referee Atty. Danrex Tapdasan, judges Salven Lagumbay and Edward Ligas, all from the Philippines, gave their input during the workshop that also benefited from the presence of international referees and judges from Thailand ? Sawaeng Thaweekoon, Mekin Sumon, Surat Soikrachang and Sungworn Klungboonkrung and the PBC,Intl Executive Secretary Maggie Wei Na from China.

Leon Panoncillo and Danny Leigh from the World Boxing Organization (WBO) were the consultants in the seminar. Panoncillo, who is the WBO Vice President for Asia-Pacific, also conducted a hand wrapping demonstration for the trainers based in Dubai.

The aspiring judges also had video exercises on how to score rounds.

PBC,International started as the Professional Boxing Commission of China (PBCC) and officiated big fights in Macau and Shanghai promoted by Top Rank and SECA as well as smaller fight cards staged by other promoters in other parts of mainland China like Suzhou and Dali. With Daniel Han of Shanghai as president and Samson Iu of Macau as executive director, the organization grew and became part of history last December when the PBC officiated the first ever professional fight card held in Sri Lanka.

Safety in boxing is also emphasized both during rules meetings for the participants and seminars for ring officials.

The PBC continues to teach judges and referees who are just starting to officiate in mainland China. This is all part of the PBC?s effort to guide the participants of the fight game so that the sport of boxing will continue to grow and will be operated in a fair and professional manner.
