IN BACOLOD: MAGALE VS. MELLIGEN FOR OPBF TITLE By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Tue, 22 Mar 2016 CURRENT International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific super featherweight champion Carlo ?The Ferocious? Magale will fight former WBO Oriental featherweight champion Mark Gil ?Gamay? Melligen for the vacant Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super featherweight interim title on April 1 at the L?Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City. The 29-year old Magale previously won his IBF Pan Pacific title via a 12th round knockout last September 11 on David Browne Jr., who later died after he suffered a coma from the fight in New South Wales, Australia. Magale (19 W-7L-3D-10 KOs) is also a former WBC International featherweight title-holder after he won by a majority decision against Dennis Tubieron on December 28, 2014 at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque. ?Magale is out to prove that his victory in Australia was not a fluke,? said boxing manager-promoter Brico Santig of the Highland International Boxing Promotion. Melligen, however, is now really hungry for a victory after losing both his last two fights including his title-fight for the vacant OPBF featherweight crown by a technical decision against Vinvin Rufino at the Manila Hotel last March 25, 2015. The 28-year old Melligen (21W-6L-1D-12 KOs) previously bowed by a split decision to Yudai Tamagawa in Japan last October 17, 2015. ?Gagawin ko ang lahat upang manalo sa harap ng kababayan ko,? (I will do everything to win in front of my people) said the 5-foot-6 Melligen. The southpaw won the vacant WBO Oriental featherweight crown by a technical knockout against Petchsamuthr Duanaaymukdahan on June 7, 2014 in China. The Magale-Melligen fight is one of the triple OPBF championships co-promoted by Santig and Thailand?s no. 1 boxing promoter Naris Singwancha.
