NBA -- Bulls bow to Heat in fourth quarter collapse
By Adeline Deladisma PhilBoxing.com Mon, 14 Mar 2016
CHICAGO -- The Miami Heat came back from a first half deficit to defeat the Chicago Bulls 118-96 in a contest with playoff implications for both teams. The Bulls led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter, only to see that lead dissipate in the third and grow into a 27 point lead by their opponent.
Before the start of the contest, the Heat sat at fourth in the Eastern Conference standings while the Bulls were in the eighth and final playoff spot with only a half game lead ahead of the Detroit Pistons. The Bulls were without All-Star guard Jimmy Butler, who has continued to struggle with a left knee strain, and Derrick Rose, who sat out of the game with a left abductor strain.
Miami's Goran Dragic scored a game high 26 points, and the Heat had a healthy lift from the bench, who were led by Josh RIchardson. The rookie scored a career high 22 points on 9 for 12 shooting, including 3 from behind the arc. Hassan Whiteside produced a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
The Bulls continued their struggle with closing out games. They were outscored 34-15 in the fourth quarter after only trailing by 3 at the start of the final stanza. Pau Gasol had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulls. Justin Holiday, who was a recent pick up by the Bulls from the Atlanta Hawks, scored a season-high 14 points in his first start for the Bulls.
The Bulls are 4-6 in their last 10 games and have dropped out of the playoff race. With just one month left in the regular season, the final playoff spots are up for grabs in the East as the 6th, 7th, and 8th place teams are separated by just 3 games.
