NBA -- Bucks can't stand the Heat By Nick Osen PhilBoxing.com Sun, 31 Jan 2016 MILWAUKEE -- On a warmer than normal winter evening in Wisconsin, the home team Bucks couldn?t stop the Miami Heat, falling 107-103, in front of a crowd of 17,846. It was a tightly contested game throughout with eight lead changes, including three in the final 3:30. Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo topped all scorers with 28 points while Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 24 along with 7 assists. Milwaukee?s loss snapped their five game win streak versus Miami, as well as their four game home win streak. Both teams came out fast with most of the points being scored in the paint and Bucks reserve Miles Plumlee got the crowd going early with a monster jam to make it 16-15 about halfway into the first quarter. But Wade made everything look easy against the Bucks? D to lead Miami to a 33-28 advantage after one quarter of action. Giannis had an incredible fastbreak reverse slam in the second, but the Bucks trailed 55-48 at the intermission. The third quarter was very exciting as Milwaukee closed the gap 66-69 about midway through, but Wade?s consistent midrange jumper for Miami kept them ahead. Antekounmpo then went on a tear and rookie Rashad Vaughn came off the bench to hit a three and put the Bucks up 80-79 for their first lead since the opening moments of the contest. Solid bench play from Plumlee and Vaughn was the key for the Bucks in the third, and the away team held an 83-81 lead headed into the final quarter. The Heat led for most of the fourth quarter, thanks to clutch scoring and playmaking from Wade and fellow All-Star Chris Bosh. Amare Stoudemire also came up big for Miami with 12 points and 8 rebounds, in Hassan Whiteside?s absence. For Milwaukee, Greg Monroe impressed with 24 points, while Plumlee shined off the bench with 8 points and 7 rebounds in less than 14 minutes of playing time. A key to Milwaukee?s comeback and tightening of the gap was their defense, specifically in the second half. When asked about how he performed against it, Wade said, ?It?s tough. They?re going to make it tough on you. You?re going to work for everything versus this team. I tried to learn from the last time we played them. I watched a lot of film on this team and the way they play me.? The former Marquette star still succeeded Friday tonight, but definitely gave Milwaukee credit for their defensive efforts against him. The young Bucks squad is now 20-29, and starts a three game Western Conference road trip in Sacramento on Monday. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Nick Osen. |
