OLISA BEATEN IN PABA TITLE FIGHT
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 04 Jul 2007
Filipino flyweight Richard Olisa has been beaten by Pan Asian Boxing Association champion Denkaosan Kaovichit of Thailand in a title fight in Bangkok which was considered by many as a mismatch.
Olisa who was ranked No. 10 in the PABA ratings in June lost by a lopsided decision with two judges having the champion ahead 117-111 and a third by a wider 118-110 margin.
Based on the available ring records on boxrec.com the fight appeared to be a mismatch since the 30 year old Kaovichit had previously beaten some sixteen rated Filipino flyweights including former world title challenger Randy Mangubat and had a record of 38-1 with 16 knockouts.
Kaovichit won the PABA title on November 28, 1996 defeating then Philippine flyweight champion Melvin Magramo and has successfuly defended the title 32 times.
Olisa on the other hand had a record of 6-7-3 with 5 knockouts although he did win his last three fights.
A well-known journalist in Bangkok emailed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today even before the Olisa fight to state that it was a clear mismatch and said that the situation is just as bad as it was before the untimely death of former youth champion Lito Sisnorio. The 24 year old Sisnorio who was knocked out by former world champion Chatchai Sasakul died after undergoing brain surgery.
