NBA -- Hornets lose to Hawks, drop to 0-3 By Adeline Deladisma PhilBoxing.com Mon, 02 Nov 2015 ![]() CHARLOTTE -- The Charlotte Hornets opened their season at home Sunday afternoon, facing off with the Atlanta Hawks for the second time in 48 hours before a crowd of 18,691 at Time Warner Cable Arena. Much like the contest on Friday night in Atlanta, it was competitive until the finals seconds. Ultimately the Hornets succumbed to the visiting Hawks 94-92. The Hornets started out of the gates early, making 3 of 3 from behind the arc to start the game. The Hawks would take the lead later in the first quarter and surge by as many as 12 points. Though they led at the half 46-49, the Hawks squandered the advantage in the third. Led by guard Nicolas Batum, who had 13 points in the quarter, the Hornets outscored their visitors 37-24. The Hawks would regain the lead in the fourth and would hold on to win, but not before the Hornets would have a chance to tie the game off a jump ball with 8 seconds left. Atlanta was led by forward Kent Bazemore, who earned a spot in a starting line up of 2015 All Stars. Bazemore had 20 points and 3 steals for the Hawks. He has proved worthy of his new role on the team and put up 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in their previous match up with the Hornets. When asked about his team's performance in the third quarter, Bazemore freely admitted, "We have a lot of getting better to do. Listen to coach, take care of the ball." How do wins like this early in the season help? According to Bazemore, "(It) helps with confidence down the road. The run we had last year (contending for Eastern Conference Championship) also helps in situations like that, knowing how to play championship caliber basketball." The two Al's notched double-doubles for their respective teams. Al Horford had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Atlanta, while Al Jefferson had 10 points and 10 boards for Charlotte. The Hawks hope to add another chapter to an era that began with last year's 60 win season. Atlanta stands at 3-1 in this young season and next face the Miami Heat on Tuesday. The Hornets (0-3) will also resume action on Tuesday when they welcome the Chicago Bulls (2-1) to Charlotte.
