CZAR AMONSOT'S 'SECOND COMING'

PhilBoxing.com

LAS VEGAS -- Filipinos and other boxing officionados in Las Vegas remember Czar Amonsot as the two-time winner of the main event held on February 3 and May 12 of 2006 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino.

On his third fight in Las Vegas on July 21, 2007, he will step into a more glorious and dazzling limelight of the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino. He will try to currently become the only Filipino world boxing champion in any division and to do this he needs to wrestle the crown from World Boxing Organization (WBO) interim lightweight champion Australian Michael Katsidis who boasted a record of 22 wins with 20 knockouts.

The Katsidis-Amonsot fight is one of the two world championship fights that are televised live at HBO pay-per-view and an undercard of the Golden Boy Promotions “Coming to Fight” between light heavyweights Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright.

WBO Asia-Pacific Lightweight champion Czar Amonsot arrived in Las Vegas on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 with world class Filipino trainer Edito Villamor and was welcomed at the airport by Edward Martin, the son of Tony Martin.

“After our morning jog and practice tomorrow we will leave for Los Angeles, California where Amonsot will undergo more extensive preparation and training under the watchful eye of the legendary trainer, Freddie Roach. He will be there for one month and will be back to Las Vegas one week before the fight,” according to Villamor.

It will be remembered that after a successful stint in Las Vegas, Amonsot was stripped of his title for failing to make weight and lost to Butar-Butar of Indonesia on a first round knockout. Tony Martin who is the official cutman of ALA stable always believe in Amonsot. He asked Mr. Antonio L. Aldeguer to send Amonsot to him in Las Vegas after the loss so that he could develop and turn him around into a championship caliber he is very capable of. Tony doesn’t have to wait long as Amonsot has come to town.

“I am so indebted with Mr. Aldeguer for the second chance he gave me. I'll prove to him that I am worthy of his renewed trust by working doubly hard and winning the WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight crown against Da Woon Jung in Seoul, Korea. With adequate preparation, firm determination and discipline, I promise I will give the Filipinos a good fight and hopefully win the championship,” Amonsot said.

“He has matured astoundingly and is ready for the championship,” Edito added.
