SAN JOSE -- The Golden State Warriors returned to a place they once called home for a year and put on a show in front of 18,223 fans by beating the Toronto Raptors, 95-87, at the SAP Center in Silicon Valley Capital Center.
Leandro Barbosa dropped 15 points while Klay Thompson added 14 points for the defending champions who began their preseason schedule on Monday night.
Reigning MVP Steph Curry was held to 19 minutes of action but he still managed to score 19 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range. Marresse Speights and James McAdoo combined for 22 points.
Without head coach Steve Kerr, who is on leave following back surgery, the Warriors were mentored by interim coach Luke Walton, an assistant in Kerr's staff.
Toronto's All-Star point guard, Kyle Lowry, was given the night off to rest a sore right groin he suffered after Sunday's 26 point outburst against the Clippers.
Without Lowry, DeMarre Carroll carried the Raptors' scoring load with 15 points while Norman Powell scored 13 points on 6 of 8 shooting in the final quarter. DeMar DeRozan had 12 points, while Jonas Valanciunas grabbed 10 boards.
Golden State Warriors travels up north on Thursday to face the Portland Trailblazers, while the Toronto Raptors will continue down south to face the Los Angeles Lakers in Ontario, California. (DM)
