NBA -- Smith returning to the Cavs

LOS ANGELES -- After weeks of speculation about his future, J.R. Smith is returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers, after all.
The 11-year veteran made the announcement via Instagram on Thursday night. "Happy to say I'm returning to the Cavs. It's been a long ride this summer but I can say for sure: well worth the wait....I wanted to rejoin an incredible organization in pursuit of the ultimate goal, an NBA championship. Thank you to the Cavaliers for making this happen."
In hopes of getting a more lucrative contract elsewhere, Smith opted out of the one-year $6.4 million remaining on his contract last June. But with no takers, he returns to Cleveland for a two-year $10 million deal, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
Traded to Cleveland from New York this past January, the 6-foot-6 Smith played 46 regular season games with the Cavs and averaged 12.7 points, 3.5 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 45 starts.
