Canelo delivers KO performance, eyes Pacquiao

HOUSTON -- After losing a majority decision to Floyd Mayweather last September 14, 2013, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has slowly climbed his way back to contention and relevance.
The 24-year old super welterweight scored a 10-round TKO over Alfredo Angulo on March of 2014 before winning a split decision against Erislandy Lara four months later.
Last Saturday at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, in front of 31,588 screaming fans, Canelo made his comeback complete and knocked out James Kirkland after three violent rounds.
The red-headed Mexican from Guadalajara, Jalisco wants a high-profile, big-money fight next, preferably against the People's Champ, Manny Pacquiao.
"I'm willing to fight anybody. He (Pacquiao) is not readt to move up to my weight class and I respect that. Hes earned that right. But sure, if he moves up to my weight I would fight him, yes," Canelo said through an interpreter.
On the heels of his majority defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather last May 2, Pacquiao sustained a torn rotator cuff injury that was just surgically repaired. The Filipino sensation and former eight-division champ will be sidelined from 9 to 12 months. And a move up in weight class is highly unlikely.
With his latest triumph, the 5-foot-9, 154-pound Alvarez improved his record to 47-1-1 with 32 knockouts.
