DID MAYWEATHER MISTAKENLY SEE THE EYE OF A LAMB IN MIAMI?

PhilBoxing.com

It is now well known that the serendipitous meeting between the unbeaten pound for pound champion Floyd ?Money? Mayweather and boxing?s only 8 division champion and Filipino Congressman Manny Pacquiao was the catalyst which finally made the much awaited Fight of the Century happen.

Throughout Money Mayweather?s brilliant career, he has chosen and cherry picked his opponents. He wants to make sure that his unblemished record would remain intact. Floyd Junior is not only an unbelievably gifted fighter but also very calculating and shrewd outside the ring. The man who also wants to be called TBE makes sure that even before he enters the ring, he already has an advantage.

There was so much speculation among pundits and fans alike that Mayweather has ducked Pacquiao over the years for fear of losing the legacy as the only unbeaten champion.

But the pressure from Showtime, pundits, the fans, and the burning desire to show the world that Mayweather is indeed The Best Ever, he had to find out for himself if he can finally shake that iota of doubt constantly brewing his mind. Mayweather knows in his heart and his mind that he has superior boxing skills over Pacquiao. But he does not want anything left to chance.

He has to find out himself.

Was the fortuitous meeting in Miami really nothing but fate and destiny? Or was it opportunity? Knowing Floyd Junior and his ability to make things happen, I would like to speculate that Mayweather, an intelligent gambler threw the dice in his favor.

He was aware that Pacquiao was in Miami as one of the celebrity judges in the Miss Universe Pageant. He also knows that Manny is an avid basketball fan and would take every prospect to watch an NBA game, especially the Miami Heat, a team coached by Filipino-American Erik Spoelstra.

So Floyd Junior made sure he will be in Miami to watch the Heat. And the rest is history.

In my February 16, 2016 Philboxing article I discussed what was at stake at the meeting.

The ?chance? meeting during the Miami Heat game was not an accident. Floyd wanted to probe. He was scouting Manny. He wanted to look directly into Pacquiao?s eyes. Floyd knows they are both elite level athletes and the difference could boil down to one?s supreme confidence and who has the eye of the tiger. Mayweather is a master of mind games. He always wants to have the upperhand even before the first punch is thrown. He has won so many fights before the first round bell rang. He wanted to see for himself if he can intimidate Manny. Floyd wanted to gauge Pacquiao?s response.

What did Floyd see in Manny?s eyes? What he saw could decide if the May 2nd fight actually happens.

If Floyd saw something and has shaken off that smidgen of doubt, the fight that everybody is waiting for will unquestionably happen.

During Mayweather?s media day last Wednesday, Floyd Junior practically confirmed my speculation. He thought he saw shock and fear in Manny?s eyes. In Floyd?s mind, that?s all he needs to give the go signal for the Fight of a Lifetime to forge ahead.

Mayweather feels that he now has the psychological advantage.

Once again he found an edge even before the first punch is thrown.

Did Floyd Mayweather Jr see the eye of a lamb in Manny Pacquiao? Or has he grossly miscalculated and dreadfully mistaken?

That will be answered one week from now.

I am placing my money on Manny, not on Money.
