HOUSTON -- Dwight Howard flexed his might on Tuesday night, scoring 28 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to power the Houston Rockets past the Dallas Mavericks.
The 111-99 win at the Toyota Center gave the Rockets a commanding 2-0 lead over the Mavericks in their first-round, best-of-series.
A recipient of Josh Smith's fancy assists many times over, Howard had 5 monsterous dunks in the 4th quarter where the Rockets pulled away.
"I'm just happy we got the win. I'm going to do whatever I can when I'm on the floor to help my teammates and just try to be a big presence on both ends of the floor. I don't care about how many points I get, my job is to make sure I dominate the paint," Howard said.
James Harden missed 12 of 17 shots, but he went 13-for-13 form the free throw line to settle with 24.
"Personally, for myself, I didn't think I had any rhythm the entire game but that's what teammates are for. Those guys did a tremendous job of stepping up and making big plays. That fourth quarter was a great example of what your teammates are for. They changed the game around. They won the game for us and I'm proud of those guys," Harden said.
Josh Smith was a big factor for the Rockets, pitching in 15 points along with 9 assists. Brewer also finished with with 15 points.
Monta Ellis had 24 points for the Mavericks while J.J. Barea had 13 off the bench. missed 11 of 14 shots and finished with just 10.
Game 3 shifts to the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Friday night (Saturday AM in Manila).
