CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls let an undermanned Philadelphia 76ers hang around before delivering a late finishing kick to pull a hard-fought victory on Saturday night at the United Center.
Tony Snell hit three fourth quarter 3s while Derrick Rose swished a 6-footer in the final minute of play and the Bulls eventually prevailed, 114-107, in front of a sold-out crowd of 22,273.
Pau Gasol starred with his 52nd double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Jimmy Butler had 15 points while Mike Dunleavy and Taj Gibson each had 13 for Chicago.
In his third game since returning from meniscus surgery, Rose tallied 22 points, six rebounds and eight assists.
"I thought he played terrific. You can tell he feels good, and that's the most important thing," Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said during his post-game press conference. .
"I'm getting there. I still going to take time. I'm just happy I have teammates I have. When a guy's missed so many games and comes back, they are sticking with me, so I'm grateful, excited and filled with joy that I'm back playing," Rose told reporters huddled around his locker.
Despite elevating their record to 48-32, the Bulls remained in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. They need one more win to lock up home court advantage in the opening round of the playoffs which is set to begin on April 18.
The Sixers, which fell to 18-62 for the season, got 22 points from Robert Covington. Jason Richardson sank four triples and finished with 19 and JaKarr Sampson added 18 for Philadelphia.
