OLIVA LOSES BY 5TH ROUND TKO AGAINST NERY IN MEXICO
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 01 Mar 2015

General Santos City's Jether Oliva failed in his second attempt to win in the country of Mexico Saturday night, where he lost via TKO in the 5th round against undefeated prospect Luis Nery at the Centro De Convenciones in Rosarito, Baja California.
Oliva, (22-3-2, 10 KO) was down twice in the 2nd courtesy of powerful combinations from Nery (16-0, 11 KO).
A big left hook stunned the Filipino fighter in the said round, which Nery followed up with stinging combinations that dropped the shocked Oliva in the canvas.
And just moments after, another strong combination from the hometown fighter sent the visiting Oliva down again.
Oliva survived the second and fought bravely in the third and fourth rounds.
Oliva wisely kept his distance from the attacking Nery in the 3rd with his jabs and movement but Nery was able to force his opponent in the post and landed shots in the final moments of the round.
Oliva was visibly tired in the fourth and Nery capitalized with hard left hooks and straight rights to the head of the Filipino fighter.
Oliva survived another hard round but his corner decided to stop the fight before the 5th round started.
Nery, who is being promoted by Zanfer Promotions, improved to 16-0 with 11 KO's while Oliva suffered the third defeat of his career, all of which were losses when he fought overseas.
Oliva previously lost to Moruti Mthalane in South Africa in an IBO flyweight title contest last year and to Ulises Solis in 2011 in Mexico in an IBF light flyweight championship match.
