ANOTHER MOCKERY OF GAB RULES By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 24 Apr 2007 Apparently the announced crackdown by the Games and Amusements Board on violations of its rules isn’t being taken seriously. Philboxing.com and boxrec.com have both reported that the Philippines Nonoy Gonzales who has lost his last eight fights is scheduled to battle Australian Gavin Topp on April 27 in Queensland for the vacant Pan Asian Boxing Association middleweight title. The fight is a rematch of their February 23rd bout which was stopped at 0:04 of the fourth round due to a cut suffered by Topp following an accidental head-butt in round two. At the time of the stoppage, Topp had scored a shutout according to all three judges. Topp has a record of 20-3-3 with 4 knockouts while Gonzales has lost his last eight fights which is a clear violation of GAB rules which prevent a boxer from fighting abroad if he does not have two wins in his last five bouts. Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today was informed that Gonzales, a fighter of Lito Mondejar was sent to Australia a couple of years ago by Jemmel Cantoyoso who is under investigation for the death of 24 year old WBC Youth flyweight champion Lito Sisnorio in a blatant mismatch. Sisonorio died after undergoing brain surgery following a fourth round KO at the hands of former world champion Chatchai Sasakul in Thailand. Gonzales began his eight fight losing streak on July 5, 2005 when he lost back-to-back fights against Thailand’s Sataporn Singwancha in WBC Asian Boxing Council light welterweight title fights. On March 3, 2006 Gonzales lost by a fifth round TKO to Michael Katsidis and on May 12 dropped an eight round decision to Topp before losing another unanimous eight round decision to Daniel Geale. Gonzales was then beaten by Adam Vella over ten rounds on August 4m 2006 before losing a unanimous ten round decision to Robert Medley on September 8 and then retiring in the sixth round against Shannan Taylor last December 15.
