WILDER DEFEATS STIVERNE, CAPTURES WBC HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA, LAS VEGAS -- Deontay Wilder (L) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, improved his undefeated record to 33 wins with 32 knockouts with a unanimous decision victory over the Haitian native and Las Vegas resident Bermane Stiverne (24-2-1, 21K0) to capture the WBC heavyweight world title here Saturday night. The scores were 118-109, 119-108 and 120-107 all in favor to the American. The difference in the fight was the height and reach of Wilder who won simply by sticking his jab all night.
