NBA -- Rose's 30 not enough to topple Cavaliers
By Anthony Rozic PhilBoxing.com Wed, 22 Oct 2014

CHICAGO -- Derrick Rose scored 30 points in an explosive preseason performance Monday night, but it wasn't enough to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, who escaped with a 107-98 victory at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Kyrie Irving, Anderson Varejao and LeBron James foiled Rose's effort with a combined 68 points. Irving had 28 points and 7 assists, Varejao finished with 22 and eight rebounds while James rattled in 18 points, seven boards and six dimes.
Kevin Love added nine points and 13 rebounds for the Cavs, who made 40 of 82 field goals (48.8 percent), six of 17 triples (35.3 percent) and 21 of 25 free throws (80.8 percent).
Pau Gasol and Taj Gibson pooled together 24 points and 13 rebounds to aid Rose. Aaron Brooks chipped in nine points and Mike Dunleavy scored eight, but the contributions weren't enough as the Bulls converted only 37 of 89 from the field, a low 41.6 percent clip.
The Bulls missed 18 of 29 triples, a dismal 37.9 percent clip. They also squandered five of 18 free throws.
"The least we can do is try and put on a show," said LeBron of the sold-out crowd of the 19,049 fans that trooped to the playing venue held in the campus of the massive Ohio State University.
The Cavs moved up to 5-1 in exhibition play while the Bulls, who travel to St. Louis to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, fell to 4-3.
Derrick Rose had 30 points in a 107-98 loss to the Cavaliers Monday night in Columbus, Ohio.
