CONDES VS RODRIGUEZ IN THRILLING "KING OF THE RING" CARD THIS SATURDAY AT PAGCOR AIRPORT CASINO FILIPINO IN PARA?AQUE, MANILA PhilBoxing.com Tue, 04 Dec 2012 Former IBF World Champion Florante Condes (25-7-1, 25KO's), from the island Province of Romblon in Central Philippines, will battle durable journeyman Michael Rodriguez for the WBC Continental Minimuweight (105 lbs) belt in the main event of "King of the Ring," the exciting fight card that will fire up the ring of PAGCOR Grand Theater Airport Casino Filipino in Para?aque, Manila this coming Saturday Dec 8th. Nicknamed "The Little Pacquiao," Condes captured the IBF Minimumweight world crown in a close split decision win in Jakarta over then world champion Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia back in mid 2007, but a year later lost the title in his first defense to Mexican Raul "Rayito" Garcia in Baja California, Mexico. However, the veteran Condes remains a fan favorite and at 32 years of age he is still hungry for glory. So last September he battled IBO World Champion Hekkie Budler (21-1, 6KO's) over twelve fast and furious rounds in Kempton Park, South Africa, losing by points, but showing that Condes can still compete at a high level. That's a reason why the fight against compatriot Rodriguez, 30, is a must-win bout for Condes, if he wants to maintain his boxing career alive and relevant. On the other hand, despite a dismal record, Michael Rodriguez is not such an easy fish as the General Santos City native has exchanged leather with some of the very best fighters in the lower divisions, including current and former champions like Suriyan Sor Rungvisai, Pornsawan Porpramook, Kompayak Porpramook, current Super Flyweight world champion Tepparith Kokietgym as well as Filipino standouts like Silver Champion Denver Cuello and #1 Flyweight Milan Melindo. Yes, Rodriguez was outclassed by those big lions, but he was fearless in combat, displaying guts, fighting spirit and none of the big shots could knock him out. Rodriguez's ring experience is an invaluable commodity. Let's find out if Condes can rock him or the other way around. MORE FIGHTS In the co-main event, 23 year-old Jopher "Baby Hatton" Maryuan (6-2-2, 2KO's) of Cagayan de Oro will collide with 20-year-old JR Estremos Singwancha (7-5, 2KO's) for the WBC Continental Light Flyweight (105 lbs) Title. "Baby Hatton" aims at writing down his fourth straight victory. His last outing was a razor thin split decision win over southpaw Ruben Traza in Lipa City, Batangas; so this Saturday Maryuan would like to score more convincing win. In contrast, opponent JR Estremos comes fresh from an impressive knock out triumph over Gensan's Michael Borja last October in La Trinidad, Benguet. In an exciting girls fight, Japanese Kayoko Ebata (4-4, 2KO's) of Tokyo squares off 21-year-old Filipina Christine Latube Singwancha (1-3-2, 0KO's), a proud native of the paradisaical island of Palawan. In her last fight last year, the Japanese Kayoko outpointed rookie Thailander Maimuang Sitkhurusian in Seoul Korea. But the more active Christine Latube (this Saturday's fight will be her 6th combat this year), aims at scoring a much needed victory that will re-establish the faith that her trainers have in her. Christine's recent outings have produced mediocre results and her handlers expect that long sweat sessions and technique teachings will begin to produce positive outcomes. Soon enough fans will find out. UNDERCARDS In one of the preliminaries, promising undefeated 20-year-old flyweight Ben Mananquil Singwancha (8-0, 2KO's) of Zambanga del Norte will battle Bacolod's Mark Vito (8-10, 1KO) in a 6 rounder. In addition, 20 year-old southpaw Alie Laurel Singwancha (7-2, 4KO's) of General Santos City faces Prell Topas in a 10 rounder, 120 lbs. Also, featherweight Jayvee "Thunder" Alipio, 28, of Pampanga will clash with Ruel "Dangerous" Suya, 24, of Masbste in an 8 rounder. Furthermore, thrilling Muay Thai Ultimate Test fights will surely entertain fans, action that can not be missed. Kings of the Ring is a production of active promoter Brico Santig of Baguio's Highland Boxing and Thai boxing patron Naris Singwancha in association Agerico Paolo Abrogar Jr., Nelson Guitierrez, Virgilio Arniel Gutierrez and the major sponsorship and support of Maria Theresa Palado. The matchmaker of this "King of The Ring" card is is work of Allan Alegria, 48, of Cotabato del Norte, in his youth a former 2-division Filipino National Champion. Co-promoter Brico Santig has informed that the card is approved and supported by GAB (Philippines Games and Amusement Board), headed by the distinguish chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon. Guanzon is voting member of the WBC Board of Governors as well as WBC International Secretary. Click here for a complete listing of columns by this author.
