MORE GAB CONVENTION UPDATES PhilBoxing.com Mon, 03 Apr 2006 The Pan Asian Boxing Association or the PABA, the regional boxing arm of the World Boxing Association(WBA), has just issued the official appointment of the boxing judges and the referee for the PABA boxing championship to be held at the Rajah Sulaiman Park dubbed as the "Rumble at the Bay" this April 21st, 2006. The event is one of the highlights of the 1st GAB Philippine Annual Boxing Convention slated at the Hotel Hyatt and Casino Manila for a period of four consecutive days starting 19th-22nd of April this year. This writer as the newly-appointed member of the PABA ratings committee will act as the fight supervisor when GAB and the TEAM Asia, the promoter of the main event feature PABA super-featherweight reigning champion Jun Paderna versus Thailand's Kularbang Keitkreerin. The fight should be well-attended since big names in the boxing scene will be at ringside, such as Don Wakee Salud of Cebu City who just arrived from South Africa after bagging another championship title courtesy of Gabriel "Flash" Pumar by knocking out African Tshepo Lefele. GAB chair Eric Buhain was cleary impressed when he noted that this time, the Filipinos are really on top of the world. Meantime, it's now green and go as far as the preparations for the GAB Convention are concerned. The dynamic GAB Chairman just called me up and re-echoed the info from Malacanang that the President, Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, has confirmed her attendance for the "Gala Night and Awarding Ceremonies" on the 19th of the scheduled boxing affair at the Hyatt. The family of the late Gabriel "Flash" Elrode had also manifested their desire to shoulder the acquintance party for all the delegates and special guests who will be present during the convention. Thank you, dear President for your seriousness to promote the betterment of the Philippines' boxing industry. And to Liza and Johnny,Bebot and Arlene, Marty and the grand matriarch of the Elordes, Mrs Laura Elorde, our sincere thanks! Also, the PABA through Alan Kim has just appointed yours truly to sit in the ratings committee of the PABA effective this month. This is a great opportunity to further help our Filipino boxers in the PABA and the WBA ranks. I hope Chairman Buhain would be happier to hear this news from the Korea-based PABA. Thanks and I really appreciate you Alan, the PABA big boss! I received positive feedbacks from the sports writers' group upon reading my previous article regarding the Boxing Writers Association of the Philippines, with Salven Lagumbay of the PDI as my co-founder. I got several emails and responses on this and thanks for your support and encouragement. Yes, we will do it and have it realized the soonest possible time and in time for the convention in order for the group to take our oath of office in a solemn set-up with Chairman Eric R. Buhain of the GAB, who will be more than happy to be its adviser. ***** Lastly, on a personal note let me congratulate this year's graduates of the Domingo Lacson National High School in the City of Bacolod headed by its indefatigable Principal Mr. Esteban Albacea. I will be their Commencement Speaker and Guest of Honor in the morning program on April 04, 2006 at the high school's gymnasium. I wish you all the best of luck as you enter college.
