WELCOME BACK, CHAIRMAN! PhilBoxing.com Tue, 07 Feb 2006 I was one of the luckiest men in the agency having the first take at an information coming from the good Chairman of the GAB, Eric R.Buhain upon his arrival today from his two weeks trip to the United States and Cancun, Mexico. The ever-dynamic Chairman arrives today with his hands full of many good news to be reported to our countrymen as far as professional boxing and the latest for the good of our pro boxers in the making are concerned. For the second time, he told this writer about the unanimous approval given by the World Boxing Council or the WBC headed by the famous Jose Sulaiman Chagnon, for the Philippines to host the 2007 WBC annual convention. A major shot in the arm not only to our boxing community but to our tourism here. Having confered with him comprehensively via the phone he reminded me of the impending success which should me made by the GAB in the upcoming agency-sponsored, first-ever "1st GAB Philippine Annual Boxing Convention" this 18-21st of April 2006. This is a big event which serves as a prelude to the future undertakings of our national government for its continued program not only to enhance but to develop a sound policy in sports, especially boxing which is now the leading sport in the country in matters of global excellence. That is why the convention theme is "Building the Nation's Competence Towards Global Excellence". "I have foreseen a big bang in the Philippines's pro boxing soon," Buhain happily noted. The good Chairman also emphasized the possibility of bringing into the country maximum attendance from the different boxing sanctioning bodies of the world. We are awaiting confirmations from the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO WBE and the regional arms like the PABA ,OPBF, WBO Asia Pacific, Pan Asian etc. to join us in this historic convention come April where the President of the Republic of the Philippines is the Guest of Honor and Speaker and some dignitaries in the national government level will be in attendance. But equally crucial is the fact that our local boxing community and organizations involving those who are licensed and accredited by the GAB will converge in this affair. Aside from the aimed success in the upcoming convention, the GAB Chairman is also enjoining the Members of his Board in the agency to create a policy that would further strenghten the development and protection of these Filipino champions who have gained recent accolades in the world. To mention a few, Manny Pacquiao, Rodel Mayol, Randy Suico, Malcolm Tu?acao, Rev Santillan, Rey Bautista, Z Gorres and others who are now considered topnotch fighters of the ring. Expect more developments to come under the excellent leadership of Eric R. Buhain. As a matter of fact, a major development has just happened for pro boxing, however, I will let my good friend Salven Lagumbay, the country's most prolific boxing writer and youngest international boxing judge, to do the writing in my behalf, to avoid a self-serving article. Mabuhay ka Chairman Eric R. Buhain! With you here as the top honcho of GAB , we are confident that our professional athletes can go many places.
