PACQUIAO- MAYWEATHER FIGHT IS A LONG WAY FROM HAPPENING PhilBoxing.com Fri, 21 May 2010 Reports indicate that Manny Pacquiao, oops pardon me, Congressman Manny Pacquiao (got to get use addressing him as such sooner or later) has agreed to the 14-day cut off demanded by the Mayweather camp the last time there was a negotiation between the two camps. Even with Pacquiao partially giving in to Mayweather?s demands in my opinion, the much awaited fight between the number 1 (Pacquiao) and the number 2 (Mayweather) pound-4-pound boxers is not going to happen this year. Not by a long shot. Not even with the hush-hush ?negotiations? supposedly happening at this very moment. But that is not to say that I am wishing it will not happen. Check this out. Mayweather after beating a slow and an aging former champion, Shane Mosley stated that he will only fight in the future if random blood testing is done without cut-off dates. In fact latest reports indicate that Mayweather now wants no ?cut-off date?. Meaning to say Pacquiao agreeing to a 14-day cut-off is now moot. Unless the Congressman?elect from Sarangani agrees to random testing anytime including the day of the fight, Mayweather is not going to meet him on top of the square ring. But even if Pacquiao reluctantly agrees to a ?no cut-off date?, Mayweather still won?t fight him. The loudmouth from Detroit will find other reasons like the money split or even the venue just so he can avoid the Filipino spitfire. He may even demand a larger ring. Even with all that money? Here is why. Mayweather is really and truly scared of Pacquiao and would not risk his record against the rookie Filipino Congressman who also happens to be better than him as a boxer. His humongous ego will never allow him to fight Pacquiao no matter how much is at stake. Even if the purse split is 60-40 and the fight happens in Vegas where xylocaine is not banned. Even if they fight in a larger ring. Mayweather is so in love with himself and his unbeaten record that no amount of money will persuade him to risk the record against the only guy who can beat him. And, Pacquiao will definitely beat him! Besides, with the money he made with the Mosley fight, he knows he can rake in good cash without Pacquiao. So why risk it? In the end, I can see Mayweather taking another fight with someone else to make more retirement cash and possibly even get a title shot at another division. After that he will announce his second retirement without ever facing Pacquiao. Then he and his rumor mongers will shout to the world that the fight everyone wanted did not happen because Pacquiao was unreasonable and did not like to do random blood tests ?to level the playing field.? In addition, with that he can brag forever that 42 men tried but 42 men failed?.. to beat him. Unfortunately Pacquiao is not included on that list.
