SHAW SHOWS TRUE COLOR PhilBoxing.com Tue, 04 Nov 2008 Los Angeles, CA -- It?s no small wonder that a man called Gary Shaw is nowhere near the stature of some of the leading promoters in this country, Bob Arum and the Golden Boy, Oscar de la Hoya. He does not even come close to the wonderful small time promoters that hold their cards on Native American Casinos and nearby hotels. Shaw does not have the allure and the charisma of those aforementioned promoters, particularly Arum and De La Hoya. On top of that, he does not have the class and professionalism expected of people in his position as a promoter. And, his comments about Nonito Donaire showed his real color. Why did I say these? Well, published reports on DogHouse Boxing indicate that when Gary Shaw was asked about the possibility of a rematched between Vic Darchinyan and Nonito Donaire, his reply was - ?I have a little dogs that begs. That?s what Nonito will have to do if he wants a rematch. No chance.? The nerve of Gary Shaw to compare Nonito Donaire to his little dog! But, then again, the dog is probably the only one that listens and believes in him! Shaw needs a therapy to restore his memory. How can he forget that pesky little raging bull called Darchinyan got knocked out silly by Nonito Donaire? Why does he think Donaire needs the rematch and should come begging to him like his dog? Donaire has nothing to prove to anyone. He already KOed Darchinyan once and given a chance, he will do it again. If anything, it is Shaw and Darchinyan who should come begging to Donaire if they want to restore the tarnished ego of the cocky Armenian and get their sweet revenge. But it?s not going to happen! So with that Darchinyan maybe a multi alphabet champion, but he can not take away the fact that he lost to Donaire! Ouch! Shaw from all indications was really miffed by the fact that with the Darchinyan loss to Donaire, his main cash cow was gone. The fact that all he had left that time was the aging Antonio Tarver did not help either. Tarver incidentally, recently lost his title to Chad Dawson, so he is gone too. When Donaire, the amiable young man that took Darchinyan?s titles proved to be a man of his own and cannot be totally controlled, Shaw took it upon himself to see to it that Donaire does not get decent fights and the purses that go with them. Shaw probably wants to dominate and control Donaire. With that, there is a huge possibility that he can control the money too. True he got him the Maldonado fight, but this writer, who was at the fight at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut was familiar with what happened that weekend. Even the promised rooms at the hotel were very hard to come by. Surely, that is no way to treat a champion. With the feud that developed between the Donaires and Shaw, Donaire was left hanging dry for almost a year until Bob Arum came to the rescue. Within a short time Arum got Donaire the Mthalane fight. Donaire got to defend his crown and on top of that he got a pretty decent pay. Shaw certainly could have done the same if he wanted to. But, the Darchinyan loss stuck to his brain and he never forgave Donaire for doing it in spite of the fact that Donaire was in his stable of boxers. He probably thought Darchinyan will bring him more money so he stuck with him. He found him fights. But not Donaire. Now that Darchinyan has KOed Mijares and grabbed two other alphabet title belts, Shaw is playing smart. Nothing wrong with that, but in doing so he did not have to insult people. Particularly a decent person like Donaire. But Shaw, in his rush to protect the only cash cow he has left (Tarver lost his belt and the MMA business Shaw he is connected with has folded), he lost his perfective and perhaps a bit of his sanity. One thing for sure, he will hold on to Darchinyan for as long as he can milk him because Shaw has nothing left except him. To do so, he is finding the ways and means to stay away from Donaire because he knows he is the only fighter who has Darchinyan?s number. If they fight again, Darchinyan will surely lose and Shaw will be left holding an empty bag. Shaw does not even want a rematch with Z Gorres because Gorres score a knockdown on Darchinyan when they fought in Cebu. The next time around, Gorres may well KO him. Thus, Shaw is looking at another direction, albeit the wrong direction. He is talking about Israel Vasquez and Rafa Marquez, both natural super bantamweights. And, he even hinted about a fight with Oscar de la Hoya. Wow! In reference to the comment about de la Hoya, I hope he is just dissing the ?Dream Match?. Otherwise, I say :- He must be smoking something! Personally, I really want him to get those fights for Darchinyan because I am positive either of those two will do to Darchiyan what Donaire has done? a quick KO. And if that happens, Shaw will be left with nothing. No Darchinyan, no Tarver and no MMA. But really, that is all a man like him truly deserves!
