NBA -- Clippers officially sold

Steve Ballmer.

CHICAGO -- Los Angeles Clippers fans, players and coaches can all rest a little bit easier now that the team officially has a new owner, ex-Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

The $2 billion deal reportedly was finalized by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas via a written ruling on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.

The Clippers sale ends the Donald Sterling saga -- who earlier this year was banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million for racist comments he made. While both players and coaches expressed their unwillingness to stay with the team under Sterling?s ownership, Sterling himself refused to walk away from the team after 33 years of ownership.

Sterling, however, was found to be mentally incapacitated by two different doctors and was subsequently removed as co-trustee of the Sterling Family Trust, leaving the doors open for his wife, Shelly Sterling to finalize the deal with Ballmer.

After four long months and the NBA Commissioner?s push, Sterling is where many wanted him to be, banned from the NBA and forced out of ownership. (KB)
