Filipino challenger Jether Oliva will try to beat the odds when he battles former IBF world flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane of South Africa for the vacant IBO flyweight belt Saturday night March 15 (early morning Sunday in Manila) at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.
Boxign manager Jim Claude Manangquil informed philboxing that Oliva and Mthalane made the weight limit - Mthalane 50.7 kgs or 111,12oz lbs , Oliva 50.5 kgs or 111 lbs, 5 oz. (above photo)
Three years ago, Oliva (20W-1L-2D, 10KO's) lost to Ulises Solis in an IBF light flyweight title bout by unanimous decision. Mthalane (29W-2L, 20KO's) is remembered by Filipino fight fans for his gallant stand against Nonito Donaire and his win against John Riel Casimero.
