CHICAGO -- The Derrick Rose watch continued in earnest yesterday when the Chicago Bulls hosted the Portland Trail Blazers. The fans' hope and expectation was that the franchise's best player will make a triumphant return at the United Center.
No such luck. Rose didn't suit up and the Bulls were hammered by the Blazers, 99-89, trailing by as many as 28 points -- 77-49 -- in the third quarter.
Rose talked to Chicago reporters after team practice at the Berto Center in suburban Deerfield and his words were not encouraging. "It can be tomorrow where I feel I can play next game. Nobody knows but God," Rose was quoted by the Chicago Tribune.
The good news is that Rose has not suffered "setbacks since the 10 months and nine days since doctors surgically repaired the torn anterior cruciate in his left knee." The 6-foot-3 point guard sustained the injury last April 28 and he had surgery on May 12.
"Still about the same when you warm up a little bit, be loose, then activity picks up and it gets back sore," Rose added. "I'm just getting used to my activity picked up a little bit. Just getting used to running, playing 5-on-5, everything I used to do."
With a 36-31 won-lost record, the Bulls are clinging to the No.6 spot in the Eastern Conference. They have 15 games left in their schedule.
