NBA -- Knicks overpower undermanned Hornets

NEW YORK --- Powered by Carmelo Anthony's 29 points, the New York Knicks scored an impressive 102-80 triumph over the New Orleans Hornets Tuesday night at the New Orleans Arena.

The Knicks pulled away from what once was a close contest by unleashing a 30-16 third quarter run. The win pushed the Knicks to an 8-1 won-lost record, the best in the Eastern Conference. New York is 7-0 when scoring over 100 points and 6-0 when holding the opposition to under 100.

The Hornets, who played without star rookie and last June's No.1 draft pick overall Anthony Davis ( left ankle stress reaction), dropped to 3-6.

Led by Ryan Anderson's 15 points, the Hornets paraded five players who scored in double digits, but it was no match to Anthony's singular brilliance and the stifling New York defense that held New Orleans to just 42 percent from the field, 29-of-69. The Hornets connected on eight of 18 triples but they missed seven of 21 free throws.

Raymond Felton and J.R. Smith combined for 30 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Knicks while defensive gem Ronnie Brewer added 10 markers. (Reynaldo Seno)
