GARY ROSATO NAMED REFEREE FOR BONER-ESCOBEDO TITLE FIGHT

World Boxing Organization (WBO) president Francisco ?Paco? Valcarcel has named Gary Rosato as referee for the junior lightweight title fight between undefeated Adrien Broner and No.1 ranked Vicente Escobedo of Mexico on July 21.

The fight will be held at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio and is presented by Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar De La Hoya. It will be Boner?s second title defense.

The talented American Broner has a record of 23-0 with 19 knockouts while challenger Escobedo has a record of 26-3 with 15 knockouts.

The three judges for the title fight will be Robert Hecko, from Chicago, Gary Merritt, from Indiana, and Thomas Miller, from Ohio. The WBO supervisor for this bout will be John Duggan.

The 22 year old Boner, nicknamed ?The Problem? won the vacant title with a 3rd round knockout of Vicente Martin Rodriguez on November 26, 2011 and successfully defended it with a 4th round TKO of undefeated Eloy ?The Prince?Perez (23-0-1, 7 KO?s) on February 25 this year.

Boner fights in the style of Floyd Mayweather Jr and is adept at slipping punches, blocking shots with his shoulders and is a quick counter-puncher.

Escobedo is a former Olympian who competed in the 2004 Olympics in Athens but lost in the round of 16 in the lightweight division to Kovshan Huseynov of Azerbaijan.

Escobedo won a ten round unanimous decision over perennial world title challenger Rocky Juarez on September 23, 2011 and won the WBO North American Boxing Organization title with a 1st round knockout of Lonnie Smith last March 3. He also scored a ten round unanimous decision over Juan Ruiz on May 12 to clinch a title shot against Broner.
