The Mercure Exhibition Centre in Ballarat is set to host a pivotal matchup this Saturday, August 29, as Filipino standout Renden “Take Over” Oppas faces off against undefeated Thai fighter Jirakrit Jarurattanachai. The two will battle over eight three-minute rounds for the WBC Australasia Minimumweight Gold Title, with the winner securing a coveted WBC World Ranking.
The card, hosted by Peter Maniatis Events, promises significant implications for the 105-pound division.
Oppas (5-1, 4 KOs) is riding a wave of momentum following a highly impressive performance in Melbourne earlier this year. He recently secured a strong unanimous decision victory over tough Australian fighter Kha Lu, showcasing his superior skills and proving he is a formidable force on Australian soil.
Standing in his way is the dangerous and undefeated Jarurattanachai (9-0-1, 8 KOs), who brings an unblemished professional record from Thailand and is eager to cement his name on the international stage.
The Ballarat event will also feature a thrilling co-feature bout, as undefeated Australian Brad Morgan steps into the ring against reigning WBA Oceania champion Mikaele Ravalaca. The two will also clash in an eight-round contest.
Australian Hall of Fame promoter Peter Maniatis noted the collaborative effort required to put the card together, highlighting the vital backing from behind the scenes.
“This fight would not be possible without Troy Kovacs' support for Team Oppas," said Maniatis. He added that Troy’s brother, the undefeated Brad Morgan, is a massive addition to the card in his fight against Ravalaca.
With world rankings on the line, Saturday night at the Mercure is shaping up to be an action-packed evening for Australian boxing fans.
