The International Boxing Federation has ordered the showdown between ALA Promotions ward Katsunari Takayama and Highland Stable's Matthew Handig. Takayama is ranked number 8 while Handig is at number 11 in the IBF world ratings.
According to promoter/manager Brico Santig, "This is a big break for Matthew and for our stable. The kid is hardworking. He deserves a world title shot though I admit that he needs more test and exposure. Takayama will be a real acid test for Handig. Right now, we are still negotiating with ALA Promotions and will give an update once negotiations are done and details of the fight have been finalized."
The Highland Naris Hayashi Boxing Stable in Baguio is home to other regional champions in the likes of WBC Continental 108 lbs Champ Donny Mabao, WBC Continental 130 lbs Champ Ranel Suco, WBC Continental 135 lbs Champ Nelson Gulpe, WBC Asia Atomweight Champ Jujeath Nagaowa, WBO No. 4 ranked Dayer Gabutan, and WBA PABA 108 Champ Rey Lorito. All boxers are also called Sinwangcha in homage to their benefactor and co-manager Thai Promoter Naris Singwangcha. (Chito Yu Katangkatang)
