Light flyweight Jose Gabuco and bantamweight Alice Kate Aparri have entered the quarter finals of the World Women?s Boxing Championships in Qinhuangdao, China, easing somewhat the pain suffered by the heartbreaking loss of Nesthy Petecio in the Olympic qualifying flyweight division by a 10-11 margin to 2010 European champion Valeria Calabrese of Italy.

Gabuco?s round of 16 opponent Bolortuul Thomurkhuyag was disqualified sending Gabuco into the quarter finals where she will meet Canada?s Kim Clavel who handily beat Turkey?s Drya Aktop in a referee stopped contest which the Canadian star clearly dominated.

In the bantamweight division Alice Kate Aparri overcame Sri Lanka?s Nilmini Jayasinghe and will next face Terry Gordoni of Italy who won when her opponent Csilla Nemedi Vargha of Hungary was disqualified.

Jayasinghe was a gold medalist at the 2009 World Women?s Invitational meet in Russia. She also represented Sri Lanka in the Asian Games and won a medal. Nilmini Jayasinghe became the first female boxer to win Gold and clinch a world title for Sri Lanka.

The garment factory worker, who trained at the very factory she worked at, brought home Gold in the under 51Kg category, at the world invitational women's boxing championship in St Petersburg, Russia.

Nilmini beat Canadian Mandy Dujold in the finals.

Even before he loss to Aparri, the Sri Lankan girl said she found it difficult to fight against Asians and mentioned China?s Ren Cancan as an example.
