Newly-crowned Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) welterweight king Dondon Sultan arrived in Cebu last night, and was warmly welcomed upon arrival at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport following his stirring win over Anton Solopov last Saturday in Surgut, Russia.
Sultan had knocked out Solopov in a single round of their scheduled 12-round affair, thus earning for him the coveted PABA title in his second attempt. He had previously lost to Thai Parkpoom Jangphonak for the title via decision.
Meanwhile, RP no. 2 lightweight Dexter Delada of the Wakee Salud Stable yesterday left for South Africa as he aims to wrest the WBC International lightweight title from Ali Funeka in East London, EC, South Africa on May 27.
Delada was accompanied in the trip by matchmaker Willy Flores, as they took the Cathay Pacific flight that would take them to Hongkong en route to Johannesburg.
A win by Delada will definitely be a major shot in the arm for local boxing following the recent losses suffered by Rodel Mayol and Jimrex Jaca in Japan.
If victorious, Delada will join Gabriel Pumar as two of the country's WBC International titleholders.
