It was a short night in Ontario as five of the six featured bouts capped by the clash between Efrain Esquivias and Jhon Albert Molina for the vacant WBA Fedelatin Super Bantamweight Title, all ended in abbreviated fashion.
In the main event of this explosive presentation, dubbed ?Path To Glory? by Thompson Boxing Promotions at the Doubletree Hotel here in Ontario, California, and televised via Fox Sports En Espanol, undefeated Efrain Esquivias, 13-0, 9 KOs needed just three rounds to score a TKO over a tough but outclassed Jhon Albert Molina, to claim the vacant WBA Fedelatin Super Bantamweight Title. The grizzled veteran, Jhon Albert Molina, who had already fought twice for the world title, was the aggressor all throughout, but could not pin down the younger and more talented Efrain Esquivias, whose speed and lateral movement kept him out of harm?s way, while effectively jabbing and scoring combinations. In the third round, Efrain Esquivias threw a perfectly timed counter left hook to the attacking Jhon Molina?s midsection and the Colombian sank down to his knees, glassy eyed, and in no condition to continue, forcing referee Jose Cobian to stop the bout.
In the supporting undercard, Junior Welterweight, Artemio ?The King? Reyes, 11-1, 10 KOs from Colton, California stalked his Michigan opponent, Marcus Thompkins for all of four rounds, snapping his head with hard jabs and straight rights, and alternating with combos to the body. Bruised from the mauling and bleeding from a cut lip, Marcus Thompkins did not answer the bell anymore for the fifth round, losing by a fifth round TKO.
In the best fight of the evening, Junior Welterweights, Jose Antonio ?Chiquita? Vargas and Ignacio ?El Kikiriki? Garcia engaged each other in a non-stop war of attrition, unloading all their arsenals in an ebb and flow action, with each boxer evidently trying to impose control and dominate the fight. Early in the second round, after mostly on the receiving end, Vargas suddenly exploded, dropping Garcia twice to the canvass, and was looking to ace his opponent with a final knockout, when he left himself open to the counter bombs of Garcia, and soon was on the verge of being knocked out himself, barely hanging on until the bell saved him. After four rounds of the highly applauded bout, one judge had it 38-36 for Vargas while the other judges turned in identical scores of 37-37 for a majority draw decision.
Other results:
Richard Contreras knocked out Alfredo Birto in the first round of their super bantamweight duel, to stretch his unbeaten mark to 5-0. The vastly talented and fast rising Richard Contreras was just too much for Alfredo Birto, who showed lots of heart, but less ring skills.
Lightweight Sergio Nunez won by first round knockout over Gerald Fisher, while Junior Bantamweight Miguel Diaz scored a TKO over Daniel Modad also in the first round.
The fights were sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) with Mo Noor acting as Lead Weight Inspector and Event Supervisor.
