ROCKY, SALIM ARRIVE IN THAILAND

BANGKOK, THAILAND--Filipinos Rocky Fuentes and Reman Salim arrived in Bangkok last Friday amid warm welcome from Thai organizers and mediamen who waited to catch a glimpse at the two young warriors who will vie for two major regional titles on January 31 here.

Fuentes, the country's no. 2 flyweight, will take on Kaichon Sor Vorapin in a 12-round scrap for the vacant World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific junior flyweig ht title. In the co-mainer, Salim goes up against Sod Looknoyantoy for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific superbantam crown.

"This will be two explosive match-ups sure to entertain the fans. I'm looking forward to this event to happen," said WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo in an e-mail to this writer.

Both Fuentes and Salim are accompanied by ALA Gym trainer Edmund Villamor, who revealed yesterday that both fighters are in tremendous shape and will give the Thai boys a run for their money.

"Rocky is aching for this fight, as this is their grudge rematch with Kaichon. The first time they fought, he took it on short notice. But this time, he's taking no prisoners," Villamor said in Cebuano.

The two fighters, added Villamor, will draw inspiration from Manny Pacquiao's earth-shaking TKO win over Erik Morales in Las Vegas last January 21.
