Philippine superfly champ Eric Barcelona of Bukidnon is slated to defend his 115-lb title on October 29 against no. 4 Celso Danggod in the co-feature of the "Fight for Love" card set at the San Andres Civic and Sports Center.
The Barcelona-Danggod tiff will co-headline Fernando Montilla's defense of the RP lightweight title against Cebu's Dexter "Dinamita" Delada in a card aimed at raising funds for the legal expenses of former world champ Luisito Espinosa as he seeks a court ruling to force promoters of his 1997 fight to pay his unpaid purse.
Top-ranked Bernabe Concepcion was originally groomed to face Barcelona, but begged off due to weight problems in making the 115-lb limit.
If victorious against Danggod, Barcelona, who now fights under the promotional banner of North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Pinol, is being groomed to vie for a regional title sometime in December as his stepping stone to a possible crack at WBA champ Martin Castillo of Mexico.
Barcelona (30-7-5, 10 KO's) is expected to showcase his newfound tricks against the veteran Danggod (33-20-13, 10 KO's).
