Welterweight Mark Jason Melligen showing the kind of aggression that would move him from a prospect to a contender scored a big shutout win over Mexico?s Norberto Gonzalez 100-90 in the main event of a Top Rank fight card at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sunday morning Manila Time.
Melligen who was in danger of being dropped from the roster of Top Rank fighters after a lackluster showing in a split decision loss to Michel Rosales was given one last chance by promoter Bob Arum to make amends and he did when he cracked previously undefeated Ramon Gatica to win by an impressive 6th round TKO last February 13 at the Las Vegas Hilton on the ?Pinoy Power 3/Latin Fury 13? fight card telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN.
Impressed by the win, Arum not only gave Melligen another chance he featured him on the main event against the tough Gonzalez who banked on a solid record of 18-1 with 12 knockouts and although he was making his first appearance in Las Vegas confidently predicted ?I?m not gonna let the crowd down and I?m not gonna let Mexico down.?
