The September 3 fight that was being toughted as the "General Santos City Flyweight Championship", between Filipino prospect Fernando Lumacad and another hometown pug Richard Donarie will not happen.
Donarie who lives in General Santos and Fernando Lumacad who trains at the American Boxing Academy in Digos City were scheduled to fight 10 rounds this coming Thursday night in Polomolok.
The fight was cancelled after Donaire's father notified JM Promotions, the promoter who is staging the 10-bout card and said "Richard will not be ready to fight Lumacad ". The last minute cancellation by Donaire although a blow to the fight card will not cancel the promotion and the remainder of the boxing card will proceed.
Lumacad's manager Ken Smith of the American Boxing Academy who is co-sponsoring the event along with JM promotions even voiced his disappointment in Donarie backing out.
"It was Donaire who came to us wanting this fight, I went to GAB to get the fight approved, and then they backed out, very disappointing," said Smith.
The boxing card's main event features General Santos unbeaten jr flyweight hopeful Jether Oliva fighting against an opponent from Thailand.
