In a virtual final blow to whatever remains to hopes of a rematch between Erik "El Terrible" Morales and Manny Pacquiao, the Mexican gladiator yesterday reiterated his intention to move up into the bigger lightweight division to take on the biggest names available in the 135-lb backyard.

Yesterday, in an interview with Mexican website Box-Latino, the former 3-division world champ told Salvador Martinez that he is meeting with promoter Bob Arum in the next few days to formally discuss his intention of vying for the WBC lightweight title possibly against Diego Corrales.

Corrales, the reigning WBO lightweight champ, is set to collide with WBC lightweight king Jose Luis Castillo on May 7 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Morales said should Corrales win, he hopes to fight the tall and lanky American. However, if Castillo prevails, he has no intention of fighting his close friend and will instead wait for him to move up into the junior welter level and fight super-champion Kostya Tszyu in September before Morales could fight for the vacated lightweight title.

Morales, who is currently on a vacation with girlfriend Andrea Mora in the Bahamas following his victory over Pacquiao, said he will start negotiations with his promoter Bob Arum after the May 7 fight between Castillo and Corrales.

Pacquiao, meanwhile, is currently in the United States to thresh out his problems concerning alleged non-payment of his IRS tax obligations, as well as confer with his lawyers regarding his share of the pay-per-view income derived from the Morales fight.

The General Santos lefty is set to see action once again in July in a tune-up bout possibly in the United States.
