With his next opponent still being finalized for his September 6 outing, Filipino prospect Drian "Gintong Kamao" Francisco has indicated that he badly wants to face Jorge Arce if only to prove to the world that Filipino fighters "are not quitters."
Apparently, Francisco was still seething from what turned out to be an easy fight for Arce yesterday in Atlantic City when his Filipino opponent Fernando Lumacad refused to continue following a knockdown early in the third round.
There was a general feeling that Lumacad had quit in the fight, as internet message boards were immediately swamped with comments about Lumacad's refusal to continue with the fight.
Francisco was hoping to fight ex-WBA interim superfly champ Rafael Concepcion of Panama for the September 6 event, but it seems the latter has opted to face Nonito Donaire Jr instead.
"Jorge Arce is the fight that Drian Francisco wants right now, especially with what happened to Lumacad," said a source close to Francisco's camp.
