Filipino Jr featherweight world contender and WBO Inter Continental champion Ramie Laput of the American Boxing Academy scored an impressive 7th round KO over a determined Rene Bucag in Zamboanga last Friday night.

Laput the WBO #7 and WBC #20 rated contender used a punishing inside body attack and a constant jab to break down and finally stop the bigger Bucag who had been fighting in Australia.

Bucag, however, showed that he came to fight by exchanging with Laput often in the early rounds. But, as the 3rd and 4th rounds arrived so did Laputs skills and experience. By the 6th round Laput was firmly in control as Bucag was floored twice the final time coming in the 7th round which left Bucag on the canvas for the count of 10 after a thundering bodyshot.

Laput's record is now 37 wins 3 losses 20Kos.

In a supporting 10 round fight Fernando "TaTa" Lumacad won a 6th round tecnical decision[Lumacad cut by accidental headbutt] over Arnold Montojo. Lumacad controlled the bout from the 1st round until the 6th when the fight was stopped due to a bad cut sustained by Lumacad in the 6th round. The fight was scored unanimously by all three judges for Lumacad the #1 rated Filipipo flyweight. Lumacad's record is now 19 wins and only 1 loss with 2 draws.

Earlier in the evening two other young ABA lions scored easy 2nd round KOs of their opponents. Ricardo Claveria and Bert Udtuhan both scored quick wins keeping their records perfect at 8-0.. Udtuhan stopped Kent Marmol, and Claveria KOd Bro Bro Lanquido.

The only dissapointment of the evening for the young ABA team was Cerilo Espino's tough 8round dec loss to Rolando Teofilo of the Black Scorpion Stable. Teofilo handled the ABA fighter for most of the fight, as Espino never seemed to get on track. The result was a 8rnd unanimous decision for Teofilo.

The ABA fighters are next slated for action March 28th in General Santos City.
