73-year-old Rodolfo Enrique Rivera, The Philippines' oldest active chess player, is scheduled to participate next month in the world stage.
The pride of Novaliches, Quezon City is set to compete in the Penang Chess Festival to be held on December 18 to 23, 2025 and the XXII edition of the Bois-Colombes Chess Master Inter Tournament on December 26 to 30, 2025 in Complex Sportif Smirlian, Bois-Colombes, France.
"Chess has always been more about passion and camaraderie than accolades," said Rivera, a habitue of Dela Costa Çhess Club who is also the legal counsel of Bayanihan Chess Club.
Rivera's participation International is backed up by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Director Imelda Arcilla Papin.
Other Filipino chess players who will be competing in the Penang Chess Festival were National Master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., National Master Romeo Alcodia, Martin "Binky" Gaticales, Ederwin Estavillo and Modesto "Meddy" Estrella.-Marlon Bernardino-
