The Philippine tennis team earned a hard-fought promotion to Davis Cup Group III after sweeping Kyrgyzstan in the Group IV Promotional Playoff.
AJ Lim led the charge for the Philippines, delivering a composed 6-3, 6-3 victory over Ilgiz Kamchibekov in Singles 2 to clinch the promotion. Earlier, Jed Olivarez set the tone with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win against Kirili Kistanov in Singles 1, giving the country an early 1-0 lead in the tie.
Unified Tennis Philippines President Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed pride in the team’s achievement. “This promotion is a testament to the team’s hard work, discipline, and fighting spirit,” said Lhuillier. “From start to finish, our players have shown that Philippine tennis is ready to make its mark again in the Davis Cup.”
Lhuillier, a former Team Manager of the Davis Cup squad and a longtime supporter of grassroots tennis, also commended Cebuana Lhuillier tennis ambassador AJ Lim for his consistent leadership on the court. “Our players have embodied the true spirit of Laban Pilipinas—relentless, united, and determined to bring Philippine tennis to greater heights,” he added.
