MANILA, Philippines---Woman International Master Cristine Rose Mariano defeated Birger Wenzel in the 3rd round to share the lead with 3 others in the Stockholm Open 2022 Chess Championships Saturday at the Stockholms Schack Salongen in Stockholm, Sweden.
This hiked Marianos’s total score to 3 to join 3 other chess players in the lead.
Other players with scores identical to Mariano’s are top seed Grandmaster Jonathan Westerberg, Simon Marder and Dan Eriksson.
The Umeå, Sweden based Mariano, a Culinary student at Astar School, beat Simon Ingleman-Sundberg in the first round and Sture Lindberg in the second round.
Mariano, an Olympian and many-time National Women's champion and one of the top players of Philippine Airforce chess team will face Eriksson in the fourth round.
She is currently staying at Lodge 32@ Hotel Hornsgatan.
Before the tournament, Mariano is in a rigid physical training under Koper, Andreas, Sofie, Lars and Abe.
