MANILA--- Rowel Roque reigned supreme in the Chess Infinitum Invitational Rapid Tournament 3rd Edition sponsored by sportsman/businessman Boojie Lim over the weekend at the SM Sucat Building B, Paranaque City.
The Valenzuela City resident Roque, one of the top players of the star-studded Sonsea Agonoy's Novelty Chess Club, bagged the P15,000 top prize of the over the board chess infinitum tilt organized by the Kamatyas Chess Club through International Master Roderick Nava and supervised by Philippine Arbiters Chess Confederation (PACC) through National Arbiter Byron Gabrentina Villar after registering the highest output of 6.5 points.
Sherwin Tiu, a habitue of Tarrasch Knight Chess Club in Guadalupe, Makati City placed second with similar 6.5 points but lower tie break points, received P10,000 for his effort.
Both Roque and Tiu agreed a draw in the seventh and final round after winning their first six assignments.
International Master Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmarinas City, Cavite, International Master Ronald Dableo of Trabajo, Sampaloc, Manila, Alvin Panes Peratilla of Caloocan City and 2nd edition winner International Master Daniel Quizon of Dasmarinas City, Cavite occupied the third to sixth spots with 6.0 points each.
Richard Milo of Batasan, Quezon City, siblings Mark Gerald and Narquingden Reyes of Rodriguez, Rizal settled for seventh, eight and ninth with 5.5 points while engr. Bren Sasot of Calamba City, Laguna completed the top 10 with 5.0 points. -Marlon Bernardino-
