TAPALES QUICKLY DISPOSES ESTRELLA WITH KO2 WIN

Former world champion and IBF top rated super bantamweight Marlon Tapales improved his record to W36 KO19 L3 as he made quick work on Mexican Jose Estrella. Estrella came out game in the opening round but Tapales never allowed him to find his rhythm with the Filipino keeping the pressure on him. Tapales found an opening in the second stanza and bombed a vicious body shot which sent Estrella to the canvas for good.

With the win, Tapales has a more definite opportunity of facing the winner of the Akhmadaliev vs. Ronny Rios super bantamweight championship clash on June 25. The 30-year-old Filipino is on a bouncing back winning streak with three stoppages after his TKO loss to Ryosuke Iwasa of Japan in late 2019.

According to Sanman CEO Jim Claude Manangquil who handles Tapales, they see Marlon become a champion again this year. “He has been grinding hard in the gym and is focused on winning another belt. God willing, he will face the winner of the Akhmadaliev-Rios winner,” Manangquil stated.

Tapales meanwhile wants to jump back into training and waste no time. "I am focused on becoming world champion again. I hope I entertained the fight fans with that fight. May God bless my endeavors,” Tapales said.
