MANILA---Chess Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. dominated the chess wizards of the Negros in a 32-board chess simultaneous game at the Lamberto Macias Sport Complex in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on Saturday.
Antonio, a 13-time National Open champion, gave a simul to 32 talented including 5 veterans and 27 junior players as part of the 2022 Grandmaster Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Negros Oriental Open Chess Tournament which begins on Sunday according to tournament organizer Mr. Drigo Teves.
"His opposition ranged from 1800 (lowest rated) up to 2050 which is a fair opponent already in a normal game," said Mr. Teves.
Michael Jan Stephen "Bonbon" Rosalem Inigo of Bayawan City and Vhea Ashley Silvano of Canlaon City handed Antonio two loses while Philippine Chess League (PCL) Founding Chairman Ringo Villagonzalo of Jimalalud could only manage a draw that lasted five hours according to Mr. Antonio Martin Olendo, co -organizer of the said chessfest.
The 2 day (April 16 and 17) event, hosted by Governor Roel Ragay Degamo in close cooperation with PhD CPA Ariel Potot of Barkadahan Para sa Bansa Party list and Mam Jeanshen "Shen" Rosalem, backed up by Dr. Jose "Joe" Carreon Balinas and Engr. Antonio "Tony" Carreon Balinas, both co-founding chairman of Bayanihan Chess Club.-Marlon Bernardino-
