Mexican boxing star Juan Manuel Marquez, who made a whirlwind trip to the Philippines last Sunday to be at ringside during the Penalosa-Vorapin title fight at the Araneta Coliseum, leaves for Los Angeles tonight via Philippine Airlines. Marquez, together with his manager Jaime Quintana and Golden Boy PR director Ramiro Gonzales, were spotted at the airport by PhilBoxing.com scribe Dr. Ed de la Vega, who was himself returning to the US in the same flight.
Marquez left without doing a reported commercial he was supposed to do in the country. According to Quintana, the commercial was still in negotiation.
Marquez, while in the country, personally and in talk shows, challenged Manny Pacquiao to a rematch. Pacquiao wrested the WBC super featherweight crown from Marquez last March 15 via a 1-point margin split decision. Pacquiao, however, appears to be all set to take on WBC lightweight champion David Diaz on June 28 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
