In the co-main event for the WBC world bantamweight championship, defending champion Luis Nery of Mexico weighed five pounds over the weight limit at 123 lbs in his first try and came back two hours later to still weigh three pounds over. Former champion and now the challenger Shinsuke Yamanaka of Japan came in at 117.5 lbs half a pound under the weight limit. Nery was thus stripped of his title and only Yamanaka will be able to win the title if he beats Nery on Thursday. Should Nery comes out victorious or if the fight ends in a draw, the title will be declared vacant.
Luis Nery comes in 5 lbs overweight in his first try.
Shinsuke Yamanaka weighs in at 117.5 lbs.
