CEBU CITY -- World flyweight champion Nonito Donaire looked very impressive in his first sparring session yesterday at the ALA Gym here, although he admitted he was still groping for form and could have done much better.
Donaire took on RP flyweight champ Rocky Fuentes for three rounds, and another two rounds against ranked fighter Louie Bantigue.
Donaire experimented on his overall skills, boxing and slugging well against both Fuentes and Bantigue.
"I was still catching my breath. My stamina is not there yet. But were still a little bit ahead on schedule," said the amiable 24-year-old champion.
Donaire ran on flat surface in the morning at the rubberized track oval of the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday, this after running uphill for 45 minutes at the Vista Grande Village on Wednesday.
Donaire says he is slowly and surely shedding off the poundage since arriving in Cebu last Monday with his father following a long trip from San Francisco.
