NBA -- Lakers trade D'Angelo Russell to Nets

D'Angelo Russell.

Just two seasons after he was chosen as the No.2 overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, D'Angelo Russell's tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers ended abruptly on Tuesday when he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

Russell was shipped alongside 7-foot-1 center Timofey Mozgov for Brook Lopez and the Nets' 27th pick. The swap gives the Lakers three first-round picks in tomorrow's draft (2, 27, 28) and clears a lot of salary cap space to pursue prized free agents in 2018.

Russell, 21, played 143 games with the Lakers and averaged 14.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4 assists per. Mozgov, on the other hand, appeared in 54 games last season and struggled with just an average of 7.4 points and 4.9 rebounds while playing 20.4 minutes per.

The 7-foot Lopez ia veteran of 9 NBA seasons and has career norms of 18.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 562 regular season games. (BDC)
